Cunha Family Scholarship in Honor of Marie Christine Cunha
James M. Cuhna ’71 and Christine Diez met early in their freshman year at Santa Clara in 1967. After graduating in 1971, they were married three months later in the Mission Church. They were blessed with three children, Camille, Katie and Kevin. After 30 years of marriage, Christine passed away in 2002. Camille originally attended Boston College an then transferred to Santa Clara and graduated in 2002. Kevin graduated from Santa Clara in 2008 and was also married in the Mission in 2012 to Jennifer Hart ’07. Needless to say, Santa Clara has meant so much to the Cunha family. According to Mr. Cunha, many made their collective experiences at Santa Clara so wonderful and enriching and the family wants to return the favor.
As a member of the Board of Regents for 12 years, Mr. Cunha was touched by the need for financial assistance the the impact it has for first generation students to attend college. With the help of scholarships, his late wife, Christine was also the first in her family to attend college. The Cunha Family Scholarship will honor her and hopefully many more to come.
Impact
The Cunha Family Scholarship in Honor of Marie Christine Cunha shall provide incremental financial assistance for undergraduate students with a preference for first generation college students who demonstrate strong academic achievement and demonstrate financial need.
