Lawrence A. and Maureen Harty Specchierla Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Lawrence A. and Maureen Harty Specchierla Endowed Scholarship Fund was established on March 28th, 2011 by Lawrence “Larry” A. and Maureen Harty Specchierla. Lawrence is an alumnus of the class of 1963 and Maureen an alumna of the class of 1965. Lawrence and Maureen have been strong advocates and active in various aspects of supporting the University throughout their lifetimes.

An approachable and optimistic individual, Lawrence Specchierla was frequently involved in various IM sports and choral music throughout his college experience – in 1963, he would graduate with a degree in Accounting. Maureen would be one of the first women accepted into the university when it went co-ed in 1961. Lawrence and Maureen would meet on-campus while helping a friend campaign for student body president, and would later get married in 1963.

As alumni, Lawrence and Maureen Specchierla both joined the President’s Club and New Student Colleague program as well as served as SCU Ambassadors from 2002-2003. Lawrence and Maureen are celebrated for their many contributions throughout the years as parents of alumni (Therese Specchierla-Perez, ’87, and Michael Specchierla, ’91), hosts of college fair events for students, leaders of alumni events in Manhattan and London, organizers of days of service in Palm Springs representing SCU, and advocates for the Jesuit mission at SCU who kept in constant contact with fellow alumni and current students. Later they would be awarded the Louis I. Bannan Alumni Service Award in 2017 for their service and contributions to the SCU alumni community.
