Michael Rugo Memorial Scholarship
To enable more SCU students to choose a career in education, Michele Rugo M.A. ‘01 and her husband John established the Michael Rugo Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund. The endowment, in honor of their late son, Michael David, is designed to assist students pursuing careers in the field of education.“We both value what Santa Clara University has to offer. It’s a program that teaches values, ethics, and creativity. Teachers really need to have some exposure to that,” John said. “We decided that funding scholarships would make a difference in people’s lives and also make a small contribution to some of the challenges that we see facing society”
Although some might say the Rugos are generous givers, John says, “the people who are going to become teachers are the ones who are truly the givers in this situation.”
Impact
The Michael Rugo Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund shall provide financial assistance for undergraduate students or students in the fifth-year teaching credential program at SCU. Preference will be given to students in the College of Arts and Sciences who are interested in pursuing a teaching career.
