Expendable: Bechtel Undergraduate Engineering Scholarships

This scholarship was established on September 25, 2008 by Bechtel Foundation to provide financial assistance to undergraduate engineering scholarships, with a preference toward diverse students and talented community college transfer applicants. Aimee Oscamou 12/12/2011 11:13 AM >>> Happy Monday, Ruth! Just following up here with answers to your questions regarding the S.D. Bechtel, Jr., Scholarship grant of $45K, awarded in June 2011: This is indeed the last renewal of the grant, as specified in the grant cover letter (and per the Foundation’s plans to spend down its funds over the next few years). As set forth in the original 2008 grant agreement (and three subsequent renewals), the funds are to be used to support undergraduate engineering scholarships, with a preference toward diverse students and talented community college transfer applicants. If we want to use the funds in another way, we must first consult with the Foundation, running the risk that they “may require that any funds not spent in accordance with the provisions of the grant be returned.” Aimée Oscamou, Communications Associate. Corporate & Foundation Relations This scholarship was established on July 1, 2008. Scholarship to educate qualified engineering undergraduates students regardless of their financial resources; train undergraduates who will give back to their communities; foster diversity in the engineering professions; and address the national need for well-trained engineers by attracting, educating, and retaining students for rewarding industry careers or graduate study. Priority given first to diverse students and/or community college transfers who demonstrate financial need, academic merit, and declare a major in civil engineering. Selected recipients may not meet all criteria, but preference will be given to students who best express the mutual values of SCU and the S.D. Bechtel Foundation."
