James Phelan Endowed Scholarship
The James Phelan Endowed Scholarship was established in 1930 by the Estate of Jimmy Phelan in memory of his father, James Duval Phelan. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to deserving undergraduate students. Jimmy was the major of San Francisco for two terms from 1897 to 1902 and a United States Senator for one term from 1915 to 1921. He was born in San Francisco in 1861 and died in Saratoga, CA on August 7, 1930.
